Sunlight on a Pond

I was sunlight on a pond, echoed in ripples and shimmers. Divided into bright uneven fragments. Yin met yang. My brilliance multiplied into protracted flashes of reflected colors. I glimmered and twinkled.

I was sunlight, on a pond, and I was warm.

I Wonder

I wonder

Is there enough time left
For someone to learn how
I like my eggs
Or what side I sleep on
Which towel I prefer
Why I like The Wailin Jenny's
And Kurt Vonnegut
And what black walnuts mean to me

Is there enough time
To understand the way I dance
And what breaking cookies means
Or why I take so many pictures
How important running water is
And thunder
And why I worship the wind

Will anyone ever understand
What it means to stroke my hair
Or how I love the way I love
Or when to hold me when I joke
And when to step back when I cry
And vice versa

I hope so. God, I do so hope.

If you are an Amazon Prime member, you can borrow it for free! For the rest of you, it's only 99 cents. What, you ask? My first short story exclusively for Kindle, now available for purchase on Amazon. I hope you will consider writing a review once you've read it. :)

"Monsters Welcome Here" is the tale of Dwayne, who went out of his way to create the scariest Halloween ever. Did he go too far?

Lovemaking, Lovebreaking

I wrote this about a month after my ex left, thinking about the contrast between the first time a couple makes love, and the last. ~~GH

Lovemaking, Lovebreaking

Lightning split my twilight sky
The first time you pressed into me
Hungry, grateful, rapt

My joy flowed onto your thighs
And our souls celebrated
Finding each other at last

Nineteen years, we shared our skies
Painted hints of clouds like afterthoughts
On a backdrop the color of your eyes

Poured our souls into the same bowl
Thoroughly mixed joys and sorrows
As if the blend would last forever

Bonus Post: Karin Fuller's Column

Karin Fuller gave me a nod in Saturday's "Smell the Coffee" column in the West Virginia Gazette-Mail. I don't know how long the link will be good for, but it should work for a couple of weeks. ~~GH
